New wave, the way of living, the music, the movies, etc. are all popularized today by the children of the children of that time (at least the ones that sorta grew up before having children). I personally have a mother who was teen during the movement of the new wave culture. So how I view music and my culture is and has been influenced by my mothers.

So when given the problem take a product and a culture and engineer a connection between the two. So my understanding of new wave was breaking from the set system of norms, breaking away from the 60's and 70's estranged cultures and creating their own. Intellectual prowess was different than the hippie's and the "mans", they searched for a new way of being viewed much like beatniks. Formal expression was pushed and sexuality was something that was being explored and accepted. People found new ways of living and found new things to enjoy in life. Life was neither simple or complex, mostly average honestly. Its almost a popularized culture because nothing really happened.

The expression of the people of new wave is followed and mimicked by todays hipsters really easily tied. The visual ascetics  and ideals is very similar, in addition just the parenting is really the dawned the grown up versions of the new wave culture of the 80's. Really the supposed culture of New wave was DIY, earth friendly (sort of, not to the same level as hippies), music loving, shows, coffeehouses, but the awareness of themselves is popularized, and the making of a new norm, a new standard close to how punks viewed the world.

Viewing the world in a new way, funneling new ideas, striving to push the human condition was a priority. When viewing my product ideas I really was trying to think of new or non normal ways of using the product soap. So what could i do to change the perception and use of washing hands? we all use the sink or anti bacteria gels, etc. which is fine, but with water conservation being important, i thought that could be a main point of my design. It will limit my design process but I think it would be a nice formal exploration and has meaning behind it. So focusing on combining water in a bowl, which limits water consumption, and just a bar of soap (organic) how can i make a statement about the standards of todays cultures through the design of the actual product? How can my packaging influence my audience and how will they respond to the design? These are what i will be exploring for the next few weeks and trying to change perception of normality.
