Thoughts on Image

Now that the first semester is over i think it is appropriate to go over how i feel about the class. Overall i believed the class was great. I learned a lot in this class. Chris Chapin has a special way of teaching and it is very interesting. He teaches in a very loose way that keeps you on your toes the details he gives you are ones clients could possibly be giving in the workplace. In addition Chris's way of giving feedback is very broad and he wants the student to develop their own way and experiment with new ideas each step of the way. I find his lack of guidance brings a lot of strength to the student. His projects also were very interesting and fun.

Book illustration on ipad

First i started off with simulated pages off of Amazon, where i simulated what the images would look like on a true internet setting.

Next i simulated how they would look on the bookstand on the Ipad. In addition I made how they would read when selected through the bookstand.

French Fold of Zacree Cobos

Given the complex task of making a 14x14 double sided french fold pamphlet type that expresses the person it is about. I chose Zacree Cobos to do my fold about.

Here is the first side that is meant to be folded.

Then here is the back side that is revealed after the user has unfolded the front side story.

The first side is supposed to create a sense of reserve and professionalism, after the first side was revealed the reverse side was to express Zac's character, the true expressiveness underneath his professional bravado. The creativeness of Zac and his geometrical based art was something i had to take care at making sure I captured. I am pleased with how it turned out.

initial image illustration reflection

So in class we showed our final 9 images that we will have to take to illustrate our stories, it went quite well and I feel confident on what i have to do. I was able to get good feed back that will help me direct myself in a good direction while im doing this assignment. I made notes for each sketch that Chris and I went over during our one on one. I cant wait to see how the images turn out.

Main notes made:
Make sure im thinking about the background dont just flat out the background, keep some depth.
there may be multiple steps to the image, just take my time when making it.
think outside of the box with cropping, angle, etc.
think of ways to make the image flow, without making it seem fake. Also Make every image in my composition.

next step is to have one whole story done by monday out of 3. Making the best use of my time is important.

Image Illustration through photography

My three choices for the Illustration project are all Jorge Luis Borges Short stories, The Aleph, The Immortal, and The Circular Ruins.

all of the short stories Borges wrote were all very grim and borderline depressing, yet they all are full of interesting detail and creative thought. With Borges loosing his sight and being a little torn between fiction and non, his insight is very interesting.

The Aleph is a really good story, it plays a lot with the idea of Infinity, jealousy, and greed. The story is very abstract like most of Borges's stories and goes into immensely deep detail. Very surreal.

The Immortals is a very good read, it has to do with a mans search for immortality without even really believing in immortality, once he finds it he sorta regrets it and feels like nothing matters. I believe this would be a very interesting story to illustrate. Themes like immortality, a search for something that no one has ascertained, the spiritual journey. i think i can make some really cool images that have to do with long exposures and some fun ideas for that state of immortality.

the last was The Circular Ruins which is a story open for deep interpretation. my belief is that it is about Borges and his want to start anew a life away from his own at that point in his life. His themes of a fresh start, magic, and creationism. I think there are a couple cool ideas i can come up with for it to make it interesting.
