Regulation of Arms Flash

The regulation of weapons, particularly guns is an important issue. This Flash video is stating the opinion that without regulation law and order can not be achieved. The Video presents chaotic and uncontrolled guns, then the symbol of regulation "wipes" in and pushes the guns out of frame, this is representing the need for a swift and straight forward attack on abuse of weapon usage. The next thing you see is a gun and a regulation symbol coming down while also scaling smaller, this was to represent the more regulation makes the issue of abuse of guns a smaller issue one that will not be that much of a big deal. This movement is slower than the previous action, being that this decrease in abuse will not necessarily happen quickly, but over some time it will be regulated and controlled. Then I finished off the video with the main thesis that "Regulation is key to law and order" then the american flag wipes across the screen to tell the viewer this has to do with regulation within the US. The Music in the background also expresses the urgency of which this topic must be acted upon. Overall the video achieves what I wanted to accomplish, I am pleased with the finished video.

Viscom Semester Reflection

Well since my semester is practically over in Visual Composition 1 it is fitting to blog a post about what I have learned over the last couple months and what i have accomplished. I have made a large improvement on my taste and feel for visual communication. I have learned many new rules and basics on the subject. It is interesting to look back at what I thought would look good, and it has only been a couple months. I have grown leaps and bounds. My original designs did not have the best craft and that truly shows, over the months I developed new skills and a stronger understanding with the programs that we must use in graphic design. The principles have been the most important thing I have learned in my opinion. They will be important in everything I do in design. The mastery of those 12 principles will be key to becoming a better designer. I am proud of my work of late and i believe I have a fairly good grasp on what I am doing now. My critique skills have immensely grown because of Visual communication, the presentation of our work has made me truly think about what I am saying with my work and about it.

POV Poster Final

Over the last couple weeks I have been working on some POV posters that concern the American Flag.
The first POV is how the lack of regulation on weaponry can cause bad things and views on America, how it specifically reflects upon the American Flag.

The Second POV was how one person (mainly the military hence the pawn) sadly reflects upon the entirety of a nation and the flag. So the second poster was saying that One pawn reflects all under the American Flag.

There were many interesting goals of this project. Most of my time was spent image finding and deep concise concept building. The idea must be as strong as the visual. After many trials These two posters were a combination of practically twelve different images, ideas, and styles to create two whole images. Both have a interesting symmetry framing in addition the directions of both the images are clear yet formally interesting. both posters are vector based and were all hand made. Towards the end of my project I was able to get to a  point were all i needed to do is touchup some of my craft without having to go back to the drawing board.

There are many new things I learned in the process of this project was heavily focused upon the key principles of how the image should flow and present itself. The ideas put into how i use them to my advantage was key. I understand that the process in which i use them was very important to experiment with the ideas and layout being that a small change could easily make the composition that much better.

Find 3 examples of contemporary or historic graphic design that successfully employ several (3-5) of the composition principles. Post to blogs. Properly cite and include a brief, well-written, explanation identifying which principles are employed and to what effect.

Using a Symbolic method two major icons are used in the composition. The galatic EMPIRE emblem which pertains to my subject pertaining to the reflection of Empiricism, and the powerful static image of Vader. image is from Flickr.

This image is interesting because it presents the empire logo on a form of governmental stature. The image gives a very representational image, it is mix symbolic, being you have to understand that a podium is considered a form of power. Over all the image clearly is showing power hierarchy.

This illustration is a very symbolic image. the use of knowledge on propaganda is necessary to understand it which makes it full of interest. the image is quite interesting in how they used a sort of a 30's to 40's war propaganda poster. The symbolic image is well illustrated and was found on Geek Tyrant.com

interesting points about the flag #2

Most people over look the rules on the flag, it is something that people totally ignore in todays culture. Rules such as you cannot wear the flag and people wear the flag in some form all the time. In researching the flag i found many ways people today totally  disregard the laws concerning the flag. It is also interesting how people manipulate the law being that it is sorta a grandfather clause and that the law doesnt apply to todays society. I can understand the want to be patriotic and to represent the flag in a positive way but know people are wearing the flag in a form of disrespect.  In addition to the fact that the rules are not even enforced is presenting another contradiction to the idea of law and order. When laws are set you would assume they would be enforced so the lack of enforcement is very interesting. However just the fact that there are so many rules that people do not know and just ignore is very interesting to the idea of the flag.

the interesting things about the american flag #1

The American flag can represent many things, it has to being it represents a whole nation, and so the nation represents the flag. The biggest problem about flags is that they represent everything that happens in the nation. Even though the flag is there to represent the idea of freedom of America, the consistent wars and military disobedience can cause people to have bad views about the nation. The aid and protection the military presents is great but the bad apples of the groups easily contradict the whole meaning behind the flag.  causes people to burn the flag in hate because of something that had happened to them or to somebody they know. Its sad to see how easy it is for the flag to be represented in a whole well by the military but at the same time so distorted by it at the same time. It is a true catch 22 with the military representing the flag, as much good they do in the world they will always be viewed by some people as a bad group of people.

Being that the American flag represents all entities who live and represent America it is easy to view it as a symbol of empiricism. The military really adds to the viewing of America, being that it is always in war and has soldiers in practically every nation the views on America can be pointed or associated directly to the military. Even though the soldiers may be helping what ever nation they are in, such as helping building communities, protection, economic stimulation, and just all around Aid when bad things happen. A sad fact though and a big attribute to the reason why the flag can be poorly represented by the military is that sometimes there are bad apples that do bad things that make some peoples attitudes for the america and the symbol of the america, the flag a distasteful one. One that sometimes leads to Flag burning, obscuring, recreation that represents it in a bad way, and other forms of disrespectful acts. It is sad that the military is such a catch 22 for the flag, since they do so much good but the bad completely out weighs the good.

Final Research map.

The research on the American flag has been very eye opening in many ways. The organization of the information has been very interesting, especially being able to connect ideas together with different areas that you would never think coenside. The overall product out of this seemed to be lacking, yet kim (my partner) and i are very proud of our work. We went through a lot to organize all the information and we tried my hardest to make it concise and flow. One way i believe we could do to make this project better is to take the blue solid rectangle off and extend the stripes and dull out the red, more of a less distracting brightness.

Response to Jean Baudrillard

The association to Machines is quite true. We all are just cogs in the machine, we all are here to serve some purpose. For me i am in the process of learning how to become a productive person in my field. Im at one of the stages in my life, being one falling into place. Its like the whole product thing, we buy things only because we either need them or think we do. We make a product in hopes that people need it, we focus on the consumer, the person buying into our equity. Its a system of supply and demand. It makes a full turn, like a pulley gear on a motor. It isn't just one gear but a banding of a plethora of gears that all somehow coincide or collide into each other. One market may be involved with another, the whole system works together, and it all comes down to the consumer, the people. Everything comes down to doing your part.
