Learning from others

People have experimented all their lives, trying to learn new things, within experimenting we look to others to learn what they have. Looking at my t4 classmates I ponder in what they have all learned, being I was there during their experiments. For me distortion was my main point, so looking at others who had similar points? Well first I looked at Zacs work.

He started of focusing on interaction, Something I found interesting later on. He explored how people react to what he put up. The first experiment with rush is really something that I feel is a great experiment trying to control thoughts or emotions. Which was inline  with my experiments with controlling emotions and interactions with condoms. Zac however took it even further he worked to have an interaction with others , something I think is important and possibly something I want to look into.

Second person I think did some interesting stuff  was andra she also ended up doing some  distortion but in a different way. She was using association to push her distortion and she introduced a really impressive use of interaction into her work. With the tab pulling for the cd and identity card. I really was interested in that exploration.

Another person I really liked was Anna. She really had some cool perception control and concepts put into her work. Looking at the interaction of composition building at the end made the experience different. Before it was a personal thing that she had created now people where building their own hierarchy and message proved to her benefit. You let loose sometimes and allow others to put their own spin can create an whole new thing. And it still holds the same style bc it is her work but manipulated to someone else's preference.

Overall there were some really cool work done that had some cool results.

T4 update

(final experiments above)

The year is coming to a close, only three weeks left and finals are starting to pop up at the horizon. T4 so far has been eventful, I really have been pushing myself within the class trying new things and trying to reach new goals.  Not confining myself and really looking to new answers each week for the problem at hand. However without some sort of control i could have easily lost what i was trying to do. As i saw other classmates succumb to the complexity or lack there of the self assigned work I tried to give reason each week to what i was doing. Not just justifying what my experiment was that week but just in my head to what i would be learning or expressing, helping myself grow. Working with the idea of distortion I was open to doing anything i really wanted to. So it was interesting to see what i came up with.

T4 notes

Where am i going from here?

so the main points on where I will be going from now on in my t4 class.

1) Choosing a specific topic within the topics condoms involve. Whether it is std control or pregnancy aversion. What can I do to further my motives and push even further.

2) Do i bring this into a "ad" based composition? Could controlling it be more beneficial to the motives of the project so far?

3) Condom Packaging? How to make the experience of buying a condom better? Not as much awkward and sort of embarrassing?

4) Do i continue to think about high schoolers and use some satire to connect and keep a less serious tone within my design?

5) suppp cha

Evaluating myself

It is hard to believe that we are 5 weeks in and time has just blew by. So far I actually have really enjoyed my time. I have tried lots of new things, exploring my horizons in type, letting myself just try new ideas and not making the first thing that comes into my head. For my User experience class i have tried to do new things, with the How To video Ian and I both really wanted to try new things, I threw out the idea to try trip-tic and I also story boarded out the way we could employ the special videography. So I feel that Ive been trying new things and that is good I believe. I want to continue to push new ideas for the remainder of the semester and into my work outside of school. Im happy with how I've been trying to push.  Do I think I'm doing the best, no but I have really been trying. I think ive been growing consistently, and its only been five weeks!!!

T4 mid thoughts

The notes I took down during my input on my presentation of my experiments to date. thinking on how i can build off this or take it into new directions. people were interested in how they could find the message or exact the information.

the reveal
story (create a message of their own)
Air fan message
clear balloons
take it out of the balloons
really liked the explosion (climax)
Static Electricity

how can i make that?

making the message stronger or totally taking it out of the balloon is my next move. still employing the distortion factor.

whats next?

the splitting up of my two ideas by using the type that had been de-stretched and my ink on balloon
the other ideas are also to continue to use the idea of putting journal responses on the same medium and just expand how they interact. The physicality of it how can that interaction change? or choose some other object to use, like a dental dam?

Journal Balloons

Lately i have been working on experimenting on how to project information that can be made apparent but just as easily wiped away. So I experimented with the idea of projecting things on the road or putting letters on balloons and seeing if people would stop but then i was thinking of a more personal experiment. Keeping the physicality of the experiment, I thought and reasoned how I want to achieve this overall experiment. In my series of goals this is the most physical of them all. there is something physical being made and held. The message however is not so much.

Ink on Balloons is very volatile, it can either eat through the balloon or it can just wipe off. You could spay it with adhesive but the tests i did and the more i thought about it the less i wanted that. Here is my experiment. If I can blow up a balloon at least once a day for the rest of the semester, write a journal entry or feeling on the balloon with a Sharpie. It is not to be sloppy bad hand writing but it will have interesting stories for each entry, the type will tell something about the entry. When the balloon has been written on next i will put it in a bag with all the other balloons. Here is where the magic works, he experimental type of this is how will the messages mesh over time because of the fact that the ink rubs off on the other balloons? Over time memories and ideas change, one can never really remember exactly how we felt, we have a general sense but no true memory of how we actually felt. I believe the messages i am writing are reflective of this idea. The messages get messy and blend together becoming a general mess. Somethings are readable but the overall feeling is gone. So I want to compile a large amount and see how it ends up.

I have color coded my entries also to add to the experience. I can evaluate the success off of the different colors and seeing if the messages have changed. What if the message that was angry was now diffused and mixed with one of the happier ones? Events like this is what i am hoping is going to happen and I am excited to see what will happen.

Red - angry_upset
White - in between not upset or angry.
Yellow - ecstatic, happy, excited
Green - educated_learned
Orange - creative_made
Blue - Sad_upset

Project Plans

Here are my plans for my experimental type projects. They are starting to become something and i feel that planning them opened up new ideas and possibilities for where I am going to go from here. I feel like i have been able to find out which ones are going to be easier to execute and how long I think it will take me to complete them in a timely fashion. However I think i need to continue to do research so that i can really nail down each one.

Exploring the Reactions of Others

I think it is important to setup some main goal to my T4 Experimental type project. I think if I am supposed to plan a project for the rest of the semester I really need to make something that can go in so many different ways. So I have been pondering how I can create or control reactions of other people with the use of projection in multiple ways. First I intend to see how people react when driving in certain situations a the word stop is projected in front of them, how can that effect what they are doing, how will they respond, or will they just continue driving? How can I push that idea and how can i expand upon the idea of that path.

Another idea I had was to introduce air, sound, and projection. What will happen when i project a letter or word on fog or something that i can project on that shows the sense of "air" and if i introduce the word or letter's sound upon the fog with the word being projected upon. How does that add to the word or experience of the letter form. I think that could go many places and also could create an interesting interaction between people and their environment.

the next idea I had was creating letterforms through air, can people distinguish between different letterforms? My idea was to use those turbo heaters that shoot air and direct them so that they make an A or H and to see if people can really distinguish between different letters or i can spell out AIR or something, trying to make a challenge for people to recognize the interaction between themselves and their environment. How far could that interaction be pushed or challenged is limitless. The biggest fall back in this experiment would be cost.

Overall i think i can really try multiple things and I had even thought trying all three in someway together, how can all these separate ideas come together and form a whole new experience. Who knows.
