Relay and Anchorage

Transformation//Reform

When you are told to change the opinions or gather interest you can go about it really in two ways, Anchoring that image with type or adding more constructive imagery or you can relay an entirely new meaning. This is a common practice for graphic designers to meddle in, rebranding and refocusing the image of a company or product is very important. For practice, taking one or two images i have practiced the two ways to create these forms of "Pragmatics".

Example//1

With this image comes connotations of urban, skate, auto inspired shoes that have become very popularized through tv and culture in the "young" community. The brand "DC" along with its identifying text "DCSHOEUSA" communicates a strong brand. Clear and solid that doesnt necessarily need any additional imagery to get the point across.

 REFORM//Anchor

To anchor you will be strengthening the image, the meaning behind it, creating a strong meaning.

By removing "DCSHOESUSA" you are deleting the double "DC" on "DC" action that is happening on their brand. With the offset look it seems more dimensional and creates something interesting. Removing the USA is more global or universal, even though "DC" is very rooted in the USA. This image is just an example of using Anchoring.

RECONSTRUCTION//Relay

A relay is reconstruction from the very core, creating a entirely new brand or sarcasm towards the original subject. Relays usually consist of imagery that plays off either symbolism of the subject or something culturally relevant.

This relay is being uber sarcastic off the relationship of the star and the relationship of the DC, and the close resemblance of Gucci Gucci, the flirty rose blossom red and the sleek sexual typeface support the context of the image. Notice it is completely sarcastic and does not relate to the real company, moreover just the brand. This is a quick example of a relay.
